Installing ceramic tile can be tricky, however before you go with Installation take some time to do the right amount of preparation work before you start with Installation of Ceramic floor tile-
Step- 1: Sub- floor preparation- Before you get started installing new tile on your floor, it is important to prepare the sub- floor structurally sound, rigid, soft, flat and free of oily or waxy films. This is the most important step in finishing a satisfactory installation.
Step- 2: Floor Layout- In this step, the room should be measured with chalk lines, once the chalk lines are in place, then need to verify the floor in both directions to balance the room.
Step- 3: Preparing the tiles- Slight shade variations are to be expected from tile to tile. To prevent this problem, ensure to purchase all the ceramic tiles at a time before you install. This blends the tile together, so any shade variations add to the quality of the floor.
Step- 4: Spreading the thin- set- Following the chalk lines as a guide do apply the thin- set in one section at a time. Spread one coat using the flat side of the trowel and then immediately go with the second coat using the notched trowel.
Step- 5: Laying Tiles- Place the tiles at a time on thin- set by pressing while allowing appropriate spacing for the grout. To align the tile you can fit the spacers in between tiles.
Step- 6: Grouting- You can start grouting on the same day however it’s more important to allow the thin- set for enough time to get dry before applying the grout. Then apply the grout over one small section at a time and spread with a rubber float and make sure to fill all the joints. Remove the excess grout before it dries then rinse the tile using a damp sponge with very little water. After sometime, all over again clean the surface of the tile with a damp sponge. On shiny tiles, just rub with a dry towel.
Maintenance of Ceramic Tile flooring–
- Sweep or vacuum floor areas prior to cleaning to remove any dust or debris.
- Rinse the entire area with clean water after cleaning to remove any solution residue.
- Damp mop your ceramic floor a minimum of once each week, more frequently for heavy traffic areas.
- Do not use harsh detergents, abrasive cleaners.
- Use Floor mats to protect your floor to reduce tile wear.
- Use mats in area of kitchen and sinks.
- Place furniture pads to avoid cracks and abrasions where it may also cause rust and cause staining.
