June 22, 2020

History of Berber Carpet

A Berber carpet is a light coloured carpet floor that has dark coloured flecks (usually brown or grey). The Berber carpets were woven by the Berber tribe of North Africa and hence have been named after them. The Berber carpets are basically looped style carpets. Over the years, these carpets started becoming really famous and hence now they can be found in more colours. The Berber carpets nowadays are popularly known as looped style carpets and are available in many more designs and patterns than before.

Pros of Berber Carpets

Durable

Berber carpets are very durable and do not get torn off easily even when exposed to heavy traffic. Once installed, you can be sure that they can last in your house for more than a decade. Though people tend to change their carpets quite often because of the stains and it attracts, but if maintained properly, these carpets can go on for many years without getting destroyed. They are more durable than the other residential carpets as well. Although, a lower quality Berber carpet may not be as durable as a high-quality carpet, so make sure to choose the finest quality if you are looking for a durable carpet flooring.

Spill-Resistant

While most of the carpet floorings are accused of not being spill-resistant, this one does not fall in the category. Many people think of avoiding carpet floors because they tend to absorb water and become less durable but Berber carpets are considered spill-resistant.

Economical

Berber carpets come in a variety of types and hence vary in cost as well. If your budget is high and you can spend lavishly on the flooring, wool Berber carpets should provide you value for money. But if your budget is not that high and you want medium costing flooring for your house/office, the olefin or polyester Berber carpets are a fine choice.

Cons of Berber Carpets

Snagging

Berber carpets, or all the other types of lop carpets for that matter, are prone to snagging. If attention is not paid to it immediately, then it might unravel the whole carpet. Even if one loop is snagged, it should be repaired immediately to avoid further troubles.

Stains

Although Berber carpets are not prone to absorbing water and other kinds of spills; they can still get stained easily. If something oily is dropped on the carpet, the oil will be absorbed within the carpet and leave a transparent blot on it. It is one of the biggest problems faced by people who install carpet flooring and hence is also a big deterrent for the people who wish to install it.

Pets

Berber carpet is not a pet-friendly flooring option. Your pet’s claws can destroy the loops in the flooring and make then snag. Also, even your pet can get hurt if the carpet’s loop is caught in their claw. A lot of cats are attracted to the Berber carpets because they are rough and hence make it their scratching post. In such a case, these carpets are more at risk of snagging and getting destroyed.

In case you don’t have a pet in your house and you are not concerned with the spill marks, Berber carpet flooring is one of the best options available for you in the market.
